Today the peacock finally got installed on the dead Bakul tree. There's a long story to it like the tail of the peacock.
We had got this tree as a Bonsai when we shifted to Panchgani from Mumbai 24 years ago. Then we planted it in the ground when we had a piece of our own land now called as Devrai Art Village. The tree grew big , flowered profusely with tiny scented flowers. Bulbuls built nest in its thick foliage and we often found it buzzing with bees.
Then one fine morning it looked as if something had gone wrong. The leaves started drooping and over a period of three months it died. We tried hard but could not save it.
There's a Tribal belief told to us by Suresh sir that when a tree that you have nurtured dies suddenly, it means the tree has taken on itself the misfortune that could have befallen you! That has been hardly any consolation and now it stands a memento!
