Devrai Art Village grows like one large family!
Kavita Todkar, an Adivasi girl from Nanded stayed with Devrai Art Village after her schooling in Sanjeewan Vidyalaya in a government sponsored integrated learning programme. She did her masters in Zoology from Satara. She has also done a one year course in Naturopathy from Pune. Last week she got married to Somesh Madhavi, an Adivasi from Gadchiroli, who joined Devrai Art Village as an apprentice and now is a master craftsman and looks after our branch in Gadchiroli. He is seen here in picture with Mahesh Pungati working on the Nandi mould. Mahesh too joined us as an apprentice but now is a master craftsman working as a resource person here to train fresh apprentices! He got married last year and his wife Shyamala has joined us as apprentice for learning metal craft. Kavita is seen in the picture with Seema Shelke, another Adivasi girl from Yavatmal who also came under Devrai's wing and is now teaching English and Maths in a local school in Panchgani. The other two girls are Ritika and Riddhi Pungati, Suresh Sir's daughters! Kudos to women power at Devrai Art Village!
Now we have around 50 women training under various craft disciplines including Bamboo craft, Jewellery making, metalcraft and painting.
